UCCS's APRN licensure disclosure, read correctly
UCCS publishes an APRN licensure disclosure for the MSN, the Post-Graduate NP Certificate and the BSN to DNP that marks its curriculum as meeting educational requirements for APRN licensure in every state except Kansas. It answers one question: whether the education counts toward an APRN license in a given state. Where you may live and do clinical hours is settled by a separate, much shorter list.

What the disclosure is
The disclosure is the page UCCS publishes under the federal Department of Education's licensure disclosure requirement. The graduate version covers the MSN, the certificate and the BSN to DNP, an identical doctorate version sits under the DNP pages, and the BSN has a disclosure page of its own.
Each row names a state or territory and gives one of three answers: the curriculum meets that jurisdiction's educational requirements for APRN licensure, it does not, or it meets with a note attached. That is the full scope of the page. It says nothing about admission, clinical placement, or whether a given board has approved UCCS for clinicals within its borders.
Because it speaks to licensure, the disclosure is most useful when you picture the day after graduation: the state where you expect to apply for an NP license is the row that matters, which may or may not be the state you live in now.

One practical caution: some state links in the disclosure table lead to the wrong board. The Arizona row links to Arkansas and the Iowa row to Louisiana, so go to each board's own website rather than trusting the link.
Why "meets" is not the same as "admitted"
Nearly every row says the curriculum meets requirements, yet UCCS accepts NP applicants from only 14 states, because clinical hours and coursework have to happen inside them. A nurse in Oregon or Georgia can read a "meets" row for their state and still be ineligible to apply while living there.
The disclosure makes no claim otherwise; it simply answers a different question. Read it alongside the approved states page: the list decides where you can study and do hours, and the disclosure speaks to the license you will seek once you finish.
Kansas shows how the two documents can drift apart. It was on UCCS's NP admission list in 2023 and has since left it, it is the lone state marked as not meeting on the disclosure, and it still appears on the RN to BSN list, which concerns a different degree. SARA and state authorization
State authorization is another layer again. UCCS takes part in the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements, NC-SARA, through WICHE. SARA concerns an institution's authorization to offer distance education to students in other member states; it does not settle licensure questions or clinical placements.
The registrar's State Authorization and Professional Licensure page notes that California is not a SARA member state. That has not closed California to UCCS's NP students: the California Board of Registered Nursing lists UCCS among its approved out-of-state NP programs, and California is one of the 14 states UCCS admits from.
When a question falls between these layers, route it by topic. The Office of the Registrar handles state authorization and SARA, and the Johnson Beth-El College handles the licensure disclosure and the programs' state lists.
Board lists, and a name that trips people up
Some state boards keep their own lists of out-of-state programs allowed to place students. These are not UCCS documents. A board list can name UCCS, leave it off, or name a different university with a similar title.
- California: UCCS appears on the Board of Registered Nursing's out-of-state NP program list.
- Arizona: UCCS appears on the Arizona State Board of Nursing's approved APRN program list; confirm current status with UCCS and the Board.
- Nevada: UCCS is not on the Nevada board's list of schools approved for the clinical portion only, which names pre-licensure schools, and whether Nevada's rule reaches APRN programs is unclear.
- Washington: the board's out-of-state list names the University of Colorado in Aurora. That is CU Anschutz, a different campus from UCCS, and Washington is not a state UCCS admits NP students from.
When a list says "University of Colorado," check the city. UCCS is in Colorado Springs; CU Anschutz is in Aurora, and CU Denver and CU Boulder are separate campuses again.

Questions UCCS students ask
Does UCCS's licensure disclosure mean I can enroll from any state?
No. The disclosure addresses whether the curriculum meets APRN educational requirements state by state. Admission to the NP programs is limited to residents of UCCS's 14 approved states, since clinical hours and coursework must be completed there. A "meets" result for a state outside that list does not make you eligible while you live in it.
Why does UCCS's disclosure say it does not meet Kansas requirements?
The disclosure gives the result, not the reason, and Kansas has also left the NP admission list since 2023. If you plan to practice in Kansas after graduating, check with the Kansas State Board of Nursing and with UCCS before you enroll. Kansas nurses can still pursue UCCS's RN to BSN, whose 21-state list includes Kansas.
Where do I ask about SARA at UCCS?
Start with the Office of the Registrar, which publishes UCCS's State Authorization and Professional Licensure page and explains the university's NC-SARA participation through WICHE. Questions about the APRN disclosure, or about which states the nursing programs admit from, belong with the Johnson Beth-El College rather than the registrar.
Does the APRN disclosure apply to the Post-Master's DNP?
The graduate disclosure names the MSN, the Post-Graduate NP Certificate and the BSN to DNP, the options that prepare students for NP certification, and an identical doctorate version sits under the DNP pages. The Post-Master's DNP already asks applicants for national certification, so confirm with the college how the disclosure applies to that option.
Does the APRN disclosure cover the RN to BSN?
No. The APRN disclosure concerns nurse practitioner licensure, and UCCS posts a separate licensure disclosure for the BSN. RN to BSN students already hold or are completing an RN license, and their program admits residents of 21 states, a list that still includes Kansas.
