Kansas nurses and UCCS: the RN to BSN, NURS 4450 and the NP gap
Kansas remains on the RN to BSN's state list, 21 names long, which puts a Kansas nurse in UCCS's applicant pool; the program's lone clinical course, NURS 4450 Public Health Nursing, would then run at a Kansas community site they arrange. The graduate side reads differently: Kansas left UCCS's NP admission list after 2023, and UCCS's APRN licensure disclosure marks it as the one state where its curriculum does not meet educational requirements.

The RN to BSN, from a Kansas address
UCCS delivers the RN to BSN's required nursing courses online in 8-week sessions, and one of them carries clinical contact hours: NURS 4450, taken late in the degree. The community site is yours to find, provided UCCS faculty agree it fits public health nursing; the unit you work on and inpatient acute units are off limits. UCCS publishes no contact-hour count, so ask course faculty before pitching a site.
The gate to registration is an enrollment checklist, and its dates do not move: spring entry closes October 1, summer entry March 1, fall entry May 1. Because the site sheet naming your Kansas site and mentor sits on that list with myClinicalExchange, CastleBranch and the prerequisites, your search has to end first. What the Kansas board expects
Kansas has honored the compact since July 1, 2019, and UCCS expects RN to BSN students beyond Colorado to be actively licensed at home before NURS 4450 starts. The KSBN material reviewed here describes no sign-off for placements by undergraduate programs from other states, the RN to BSN included.
Graduate study works differently. KSBN sets no approval step before a Kansas resident starts an out-of-state online APRN program; it examines the program later, at the point a graduate seeks Kansas APRN licensure. That review covers advanced pharmacology, health assessment and pathophysiology, total credits, national accreditation and clinical hours in the specialty role: at least 500 if the student entered before March 1, 2025, and at least 750 for later admits. Kansas cities and care systems
The Kansas share of metropolitan Kansas City holds the most residents, with Wichita, Topeka and Manhattan following. Stormont Vail Health, Ascension Via Christi, The University of Kansas Health System and Wichita's Wesley Healthcare (part of HCA Healthcare) are among the systems operating in the state, while the Kansas Department of Health and Environment leads public health. These sketch the landscape only; none is described as holding a UCCS agreement, and each community setting you propose goes to faculty for approval.
Kansas nurses aiming for an NP
For now the NP route runs through a home elsewhere. UCCS's MSN, RN to MSN and certificate programs admit only from 14 listed states, where every clinical hour and course must be completed, and UCCS counts residency as the place you physically live. Why can a Kansas resident apply to UCCS's RN to BSN but not its MSN?
Each program keeps its own list. The RN to BSN names 21 states, Kansas among them, and UCCS says that list serves only the RN-BSN programs. The MSN, RN to MSN and certificate list 14 states, and Kansas dropped off after 2023. Confirm your own status with UCCS before applying to either.
Does the 'does not meet' result for Kansas affect the RN to BSN?
That result sits on UCCS's APRN licensure disclosure, which covers the MSN, the Post-Graduate NP Certificate and the BSN to DNP, the programs leading to advanced practice licensure. No new license comes out of the RN to BSN, since you are already a registered nurse, so for that degree go by the RN to BSN page and your advisor.
Is a Kansas multistate license enough for NURS 4450?
When Kansas is your home state, a Kansas-issued multistate license is an active Kansas RN license, which is what UCCS asks for before the course. Kansas has been in the compact since mid-2019, so that same license also lets you practice in the other compact states.
Could I study UCCS's NP programs if I move to Colorado?
Colorado is UCCS's home state and sits on the NP list, so a Kansas nurse who genuinely relocates there would apply as a Colorado resident.
