Oklahoma nurses in UCCS's online NP programs
Oklahoma is one of the 14 states UCCS draws online NP students from, which means a nurse in Tulsa, Oklahoma City or a small county seat can finish every rotation without crossing a state line. Oklahoma skips any advance permission step for graduate APRN students, but it does attach conditions, starting with your own Oklahoma RN license.

Oklahoma's terms for APRN students from other states
Look up Board rule 485:10-5-12 and you find two tracks. Pre-licensure schools need the Board's permission before they place students. RNs enrolled in an APRN program based elsewhere bypass that step, as long as every one of these holds:
- You carry an Oklahoma RN license with no encumbrance on it.
- Whoever on the faculty oversees your clinical work carries an unencumbered Oklahoma license, at the level taught or higher.
- The program lines up with what the Oklahoma Board expects of APRN education.
The first is yours to maintain; the other two sit with UCCS, and nothing public describes how the college meets them, so raise both with the Graduate Clinical Practicum Coordinator before your first Oklahoma rotation. Restricted practice and the preceptor you pick
AANP's Oklahoma fact sheet files the state under restricted practice: NP prescribing rests on a written record of physician supervision spanning 6,240 hours. Schedule II medications, meanwhile, stay outside what an NP there may prescribe. That matters because UCCS asks every NP preceptor to be nationally certified with full prescriptive authority.
When an Oklahoma NP offers to take you, ask the coordinator early whether that clinician's prescribing status meets UCCS's standard. For FNP and AGNP rotations, Oklahoma-licensed MDs, DOs and PAs also qualify. PMHNP students need psychiatric prescribers; the PMHNP preceptor rules explain who counts.
A tax credit Oklahoma offers preceptors
Oklahoma rewards clinicians who teach. HB 3351, a 2024 law, created an income tax credit for Oklahoma-licensed physicians (MD or DO), PAs and APRNs who practice primary care in-state and take on medical, PA or APRN learners. The law counts 160 precepted hours, added together, as one rotation; ten rotations a year is the ceiling for each preceptor, and awards go in order of application until the funding runs out.
Administration falls to the Oklahoma Health Care Workforce Training Commission, and the credit spans tax years 2026 to 2035. It is nonrefundable, with a five-year carryforward. Eligibility is for the preceptor and the Commission to settle, but it is worth raising when you approach one.
Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Lawton and Enid
Oklahoma City's metro counts about 1.5 million residents and Tulsa's close to 1.07 million, with Lawton and Enid trailing well behind. The larger hospital groups include OU Health (linked to the University of Oklahoma), INTEGRIS Health, SSM Health St. Anthony, Hillcrest HealthCare System and Saint Francis Health System. Take the list as a sketch of where clinicians work; it says nothing about UCCS agreements.
FNP and AGNP hours belong in outpatient primary care, so clinics outrank hospital floors in your search. For a NURS 4450 agency, RN to BSN students might begin with programs connected to the Oklahoma State Department of Health.

Which license does Oklahoma expect me to hold during UCCS rotations?
An Oklahoma RN license, unencumbered. The state's rule opens its clinics to RNs from out-of-state APRN programs only on that condition, among others. Oklahoma belongs to the Nurse Licensure Compact and issues multistate licenses, so keep yours active and unencumbered from the first rotation to the last.
Does UCCS need the Oklahoma Board's permission before I start clinicals?
Not as a separate step. Advance permission applies only to schools preparing students for a first license. For APRN students Oklahoma sets conditions instead, covering the student's license, the overseeing faculty member's license and the program's education standards. Ask UCCS how it meets the faculty and program conditions.
Does UCCS say its NP curriculum meets Oklahoma's requirements?
UCCS's APRN licensure disclosure lists Oklahoma as a state where the curriculum meets educational requirements for licensure. It speaks to coursework, not to admission or placement, and the Oklahoma Board makes licensing decisions. The licensure disclosure page explains its limits.
Can I finish UCCS's RN to BSN from Oklahoma?
Yes: the RN to BSN's list of 21 states includes Oklahoma. NURS 4450 Public Health Nursing, the program's only clinical course, runs at an Oklahoma community agency you line up and faculty approve, away from your own work unit and from inpatient acute care. More on the RN to BSN.
When should an Oklahoma student start the preceptor search?
UCCS's 2026 handbooks point to a head start of three to six months before the practicum course, with the Clinical Site Sheet sent before the prior semester when possible. Legal review of a brand-new agreement runs six to eight weeks, sometimes longer. See preceptor lead time.
