Georgia nurses considering UCCS
UCCS's online nurse practitioner and RN to BSN programs accept residents of named states only, and Georgia is not named. The closest listed state for NP study is Florida, just across the southern border; once you live there, UCCS's model of finding your own preceptor where you reside applies in full.

Can you study with UCCS from Georgia?
Not while you live in Georgia. UCCS's graduate NP list covers 14 states and the RN to BSN list covers 21, and Georgia is on neither; UCCS reads residence as physical location. Rotations follow the same rule, so a Savannah or Augusta practice cannot count toward a UCCS course. The approved states guide quotes both lists.

Georgia leaves graduate programs to its licensing rules
Georgia regulates nursing through a board attached to the Secretary of State's office, and that board leaves post-licensure education alone: it neither approves nor regulates RN-BSN, MSN or NP programs, so a school based elsewhere needs no Board sign-off to place graduate students in Georgia. Licensing does the gatekeeping instead. Anyone logging clinical hours in Georgia must be licensed there, either by Georgia directly or through a multistate license from another compact state; instructors and preceptors meet that same test even when they teach remotely; and APRN students must be taught clinically by a nurse holding Georgia APRN authorization.
Georgia's compact membership dates to January 2018. The picture for pre-licensure schools differs: by the Board's account, not a single outside or online pre-licensure program currently holds approval for Georgia clinicals.
Restricted practice and Georgia's preceptor credit
On AANP's scale Georgia is a restricted-practice state: its NPs need a physician's delegation or supervision, and Schedule II prescribing carries limits. Colorado, by contrast, rates full practice.
Georgia's Preceptor Tax Incentive Program credits licensed preceptors (APRNs and PAs, plus physicians and dentists) for uncompensated community teaching, subject to a statewide yearly ceiling. HB 144 revised and extended it, adding yearly registration from 2026, though the revenue department's page still shows the older terms. The rotations must serve students enrolled in Georgia's own programs.
Metro Atlanta and the rest of the state
Roughly 6.5 million people live in metro Atlanta. Emory Healthcare, Northside Hospital, Piedmont Healthcare, Wellstar Health System and Grady Health System rank among Georgia's major health systems. Savannah, the Georgia side of Augusta and the Georgia side of Columbus make up the next tier of metros.
Florida, North Carolina and the listed-state route
Florida is on UCCS's NP list and is a compact state; North Carolina, on Georgia's northern edge, is on the RN to BSN list only. A Georgia nurse who moves and then applies does so as a resident of the new state. From there, you arrange a primary care preceptor near home, UCCS approves the site and drafts the agreement, and hours start after its "good to go" email. Questions UCCS students ask
Can I apply to UCCS's online FNP while living in Atlanta?
No. The FNP, like every UCCS NP track, admits residents of 14 listed states, and Georgia is not among them. Nurses already living in a listed state such as Florida apply as residents there, and UCCS makes each admission decision. UCCS revises its list from time to time, so verify it before planning.
If I move to Florida, could I still use a preceptor in south Georgia?
No. A UCCS rotation has to sit in a state UCCS names, and training anywhere beyond your home state first goes past the Graduate Clinical Practicum Coordinator for approval. Georgia is unlisted, so even a practice a short drive from the Florida line would fall outside a UCCS rotation.
Would a Georgia preceptor get PTIP credit for precepting a UCCS student?
The credit is tied to learners from Georgia's own medical, dental, NP and PA schools, so a rotation for a school outside Georgia falls outside it. For UCCS the point is moot, because UCCS hours do not take place in Georgia. Colorado has its own rural and frontier preceptor credit for Colorado preceptors.
Does UCCS's licensure disclosure mention Georgia?
Yes. Georgia carries a "meets" entry on UCCS's APRN disclosure, meaning UCCS considers its NP coursework adequate for Georgia's APRN education rules, useful if you graduate elsewhere and later come back.
