Florida is the only state east of the Mississippi on UCCS's list for its online nurse practitioner programs. Residents study without campus visits and complete their precepted hours in Florida. The state's approval statute targets pre-licensure schools, so UCCS's own approval process is the step that clears a Florida clinic for your hours.

Florida's board and out-of-state graduate programs
Florida's approval statute, 464.019, is aimed at institutions wishing to run prelicensure nursing education in Florida, and the board describes its approval work in pre-licensure terms. No Florida provision surfaced that asks an out-of-state graduate, APRN or RN to BSN program to seek approval or file notice before placing students.
In practice, UCCS's process is the gate. The college reviews your site through the Clinical Site Sheet, prepares both the Affiliation Agreement and the preceptor letter, then sends a "good to go" email before your first hour. With no Florida list involved, there is nothing for UCCS to appear on.
Compact licensing and Florida practice rules
Compact licensing has applied in Florida since January 2018. UCCS's handbook calls for a multistate license whenever hours fall in a compact state away from home, along with approval from the Graduate Clinical Practicum Coordinator; the RN license guide lays it out.
On AANP's map Florida is restricted; certain NPs there practice under a physician protocol that lasts as long as their careers do, though some exemptions exist. For NP preceptors, UCCS looks for national certification, full prescriptive authority and two years of experience. MDs, DOs and PAs also qualify for FNP and AGNP rotations, and UCCS suggests logging 200 or more hours under an NP.
Miami, Tampa, Orlando and Jacksonville
The Census's 2025 estimates count about 6.4 million people in Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach, 3.4 million in Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, 3.0 million in Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford and 1.8 million in Jacksonville.
Well-known systems include UF Health, the University of Florida's system; Baptist Health South Florida; BayCare; HCA Florida Healthcare; and AdventHealth, a multistate system headquartered in Florida. Any practice you use, inside one of these systems or not, receives its own UCCS agreement.
Florida also pays some facilities back for student training through TEACH, a program the state's health care administration agency runs. Qualifying sites include FQHCs, rural health clinics and community mental health centers, and APRN primary care rotations are among the eligible hours. The catch: reimbursement is limited to learners in accredited Florida-based programs, so a UCCS rotation does not qualify.
A Colorado program, taken from Florida
Distance matters less than it sounds. Each FNP or AGNP clinical course includes one site visit after the halfway point, held on site or by phone, while PMHNP visits happen by phone. FNP and AGNP students can also apply as many as 20 hours of optional campus simulation or skills lab, and UCCS offers other options to anyone unable to travel.

Questions UCCS students ask
Is a Florida address enough to apply to UCCS's FNP?
It meets the residency rule. The MSN, RN to MSN and NP certificate take residents of 14 states, Florida included, with clinical hours done in Florida. UCCS makes every admission decision, so ask the college about your eligibility first.
Do I have to travel to Colorado?
No campus visits are required, according to UCCS's MSN page. The only campus-based item is optional: a limited block of simulation or skills-lab time that FNP and AGNP students may count, with alternatives for anyone who cannot come.
Which Florida settings count for FNP and AGNP hours?
Primary care. UCCS rules out hospital and inpatient hours and the emergency department for FNP and AGNP students. Women's health takes 30 to 45 hours, urgent care is allowed from the second rotation, and specialty clinics fit only in Synthesis. The what counts guide lists the caps.
Can I do rotations in a neighboring state?
Hours outside Florida need two things: a state on UCCS's list and a yes from the Graduate Clinical Practicum Coordinator. Georgia and Alabama border Florida but are not on that list, so hours there would not count toward your UCCS total. Listed compact states accept your multistate license.
Does UCCS's curriculum meet Florida's APRN licensure requirements?
UCCS's licensure disclosure says its curriculum meets Florida's educational requirements for APRN licensure. That is a statement about coursework, separate from the admission list, and the Florida Board of Nursing decides your license after graduation. The licensure disclosure guide explains the difference.
