UCCS from an Indiana address: what is open
Indiana's own board leaves graduate nursing programs alone, but that does not change UCCS's rule: its online NP and RN to BSN programs admit only residents of listed states, and Indiana is not one. Ohio, next door, is on the RN to BSN list; for the NP tracks, the move is farther west or south.

Indiana is off both UCCS lists
UCCS goes by where you physically live. Its NP tracks take residents of 14 states and its RN to BSN takes 21, and Indiana is absent from both. UCCS practicum hours also stay in listed states, so an Indianapolis or Fort Wayne practice cannot count for a UCCS course. The approved states guide sets the lists out.

Indiana's light touch on graduate programs is a state board matter; UCCS's residency lists still decide who may enroll.
How Indiana's board handles graduate programs
Indiana's nursing board, housed in the state's Professional Licensing Agency, focuses its accreditation on schools inside Indiana that train new RNs and LPNs. Degree-completion and graduate study sit outside its review, in the board's own words, and the research behind this page turned up no approval hurdle for an RN-BSN or master's program from another state sending students to Indiana sites. Indiana's program-eligibility regulation, 848 IAC 1-2-4, is written around pre-licensure schools alone.
That openness helps with schools that admit Indiana residents; for UCCS, the residency list comes first.
Compact licensing and reduced practice
July 2020 brought Indiana into the Nurse Licensure Compact, so a multistate license is common among its RNs; the APRN Compact has not passed there. On AANP's scale Indiana is reduced practice: every NP maintains a state-regulated collaboration agreement with a physician covering some part of their work. Colorado and several other UCCS states rate full practice.

Indianapolis, Fort Wayne and two border metros
Roughly 2.2 million people live in metro Indianapolis, and Fort Wayne, with about 466,000, anchors the northeast. Northwest Indiana belongs to the Chicago metro, with about 729,000 residents on the Indiana side, and the Louisville metro, across the Ohio River, reaches about 281,000 more Hoosiers. Major systems include Ascension St. Vincent, Indiana University Health, Parkview Health, Community Health Network and Franciscan Health.
Ohio for the RN to BSN, farther for NP study
Ohio borders Indiana to the east, and living there makes an RN eligible to apply for UCCS's RN to BSN; its single clinical course, NURS 4450, would then use an Ohio community agency of your choosing. NP applicants face a bigger relocation, to Colorado or another of UCCS's 14 NP states. Wherever you settle, the preceptor or agency search is yours, UCCS reviews and contracts with the site, and your hours wait for its green light. Questions UCCS students ask
Can I apply to UCCS's online FNP from Indianapolis?
No. Family NP applicants must reside in one of UCCS's 14 NP states, and Indiana is not among them. Once you actually live in a listed state, you apply from that address, and UCCS makes the call on every application. The list has changed over time, so confirm the current version with UCCS before you plan.
If Indiana's board does not regulate graduate programs, why can't I enroll?
The board's position governs which programs may operate or place students in Indiana. UCCS sets its own admission rule, limiting its online programs to residents of listed states and keeping clinical hours in those states. Indiana's openness does not add Indiana to UCCS's lists.
Could an Ohio address let me complete NURS 4450 at an Indiana agency?
Plan on Ohio. UCCS lists 21 states for the RN to BSN, and Indiana is not one of them, so your community site should sit in Ohio or another listed state. Faculty approve each NURS 4450 site, and the NURS 4450 guide explains the checklist and deadlines.
Does UCCS's licensure disclosure include Indiana?
Yes. Indiana shows as "meets" on UCCS's APRN licensure disclosure, UCCS's view that its coursework fits Indiana's education rules for APRN licensure. That helps a graduate who returns to Indiana later, but it is a statement about coursework, not a list of states UCCS admits from.
