Which UCCS programs work from Alaska
Every online UCCS nursing program that admits students outside Colorado is open to Alaskans. The graduate NP options ask you to live in a listed state and to finish both coursework and clinical hours there; the approved states guide sets out all three of UCCS's lists.

Licensing: Alaska sits outside the compact
The Nurse Licensure Compact does not include Alaska. The board's compact page says lawmakers have yet to pass a bill to join and shows two bills still pending. For hours in a non-compact state, UCCS's handbook calls for an active RN license issued by that state, so plan on an Alaska license for Alaska hours; the RN license guide explains the rule.
On AANP's practice-environment map, Alaska is full practice. UCCS adds its own bar: preceptors licensed where the hours happen, two years of experience, and NPs who are nationally certified with full prescriptive authority.
The Alaska preceptorship registration, in order
If your APRN school is based outside Alaska, the board's FAQ directs you to seek a preceptorship through it. The regulation behind that, 12 AAC 44.460, registers a person rather than a program, which is why no Alaska list exists for UCCS to be on.
- Show an RN license in good standingThe board's form takes one from Alaska or elsewhere, while UCCS's non-compact rule points you to an Alaska license.
- Prove you are enrolledSend proof that UCCS currently counts you as an APRN student.
- Attach the preceptorship arrangementThe board asks for the agreement linking school, facility, student and preceptor. UCCS's side is the Affiliation Agreement and preceptor letter; ask the college which document to send.
- File form 08-4253 with its feeThe fee is non-refundable. Registration lapses after a year at most, and earlier when that preceptorship closes.
Per the form, your Alaska preceptor practices as an APRN or physician under a clear, active license or privilege, shares your practice focus, and supervises, teaches and evaluates you where care happens.
UCCS accepts PAs as FNP and AGNP preceptors, but Alaska's form names APRNs and physicians, so check with the board and UCCS before planning hours with a PA.
Anchorage, Fairbanks and the rest of the map
Census estimates for 2025 put about 406,000 people in the Anchorage metro area, about 94,000 in Fairbanks-College and about 32,000 around Juneau. Beyond those hubs, a preceptor search often narrows to one clinic serving a wide area.
Providence Alaska Medical Center belongs to Providence, the largest hospital operator statewide. Anchorage also has the tribal Alaska Native Medical Center, HCA owns Alaska Regional Hospital, Palmer has Mat-Su Regional, and Foundation Health Partners oversees Fairbanks Memorial Hospital and Tanana Valley Clinic. These names sketch Alaska health care; none is a UCCS partner by default. Each rotation needs its own agreement, and FNP and AGNP hours stay in primary care, outside hospital units.
RN to BSN students in Alaska
For the RN to BSN, clinical work is limited to one course, NURS 4450 Public Health Nursing. You pick an Alaska community site, faculty judge whether it fits, and your own unit and inpatient acute care are off the table. The NURS 4450 guide covers the checklist and deadlines.
The board's expectations for RN to BS learners are brief: a nationally accredited school holding approval in its own state, and an active RN license without restrictions from any US jurisdiction. Its FAQ shows no program approval step.

Yes. Alaska appears among the 14 states UCCS accepts for the MSN, the RN to MSN and the NP certificate, and the college expects your hours to happen in Alaska. Admission is UCCS's call, so confirm eligibility with the college first.
Which RN license should I hold for UCCS hours in Alaska?
An Alaska license is the safe plan. The state sits outside the compact, and UCCS's handbook asks for an active license from any non-compact state where hours happen. The board's form is looser on this point, so if you hold only an out-of-state license, talk to the Graduate Clinical Practicum Coordinator early.
When does the Alaska board registration expire?
A year at most, and less if the preceptorship closes earlier; the board permits a single renewal. A UCCS practicum spans several semesters and often several preceptors, so check the board's FAQ whenever your preceptor changes.
Can I do some of my hours in Washington?
No. Washington is missing from UCCS's state list, and hours count only in listed states. Any listed state beyond Alaska must be cleared by the Graduate Clinical Practicum Coordinator, and you need a license that works there. If you are relocating, read moving during the program.
Does UCCS's licensure disclosure cover Alaska?
Yes. According to UCCS's APRN licensure disclosure, the curriculum satisfies Alaska's educational requirements. Read it as a verdict on coursework rather than an admission promise; the Alaska Board of Nursing still weighs your license application on its own once you graduate.
