Michigan sits on neither of UCCS's admission rosters: 14 states for the online NP programs, 21 for the RN to BSN. So the real question for a Michigan nurse is which listed state to move to, because that is where UCCS would expect your clinical hours to happen.

Michigan licensing sits outside the compact

Michigan is not a compact member, though a compact bill, HB 4246, is listed as pending. Anyone seeking a Michigan RN license clears a criminal history check, completes a single training on spotting victims of human trafficking, and finishes implicit bias training (two hours) in the five-year window before the license issues. NP specialty certification is reserved for holders of a Michigan RN license who also carry national certification from a Board-recognized body. On AANP's map Michigan is restricted, with physician delegation required for an NP's controlled-substance prescribing.

Because a Michigan license carries no multistate privilege, plan on licensing in your new state. If it is a compact member, UCCS will look for a multistate credential; in Alaska, California or Nevada, a license from that state. The license guide goes deeper.

What Michigan's board expects of outside programs

Less than many states. The Michigan Board of Nursing's approval rules cover schools inside Michigan, and research found no approval or notice step for outside programs sending students there. Out-of-state graduates seeking Michigan licensure are judged by their program's national accreditation (ACEN, CNEA or CCNE), not by Board approval, and UCCS's APRN licensure disclosure lists Michigan as "meets" for curriculum. Neither point opens UCCS admission to people living in Michigan.

On preceptor incentives, the state health department's pilot with one Michigan university's FNP and PMHNP students has ended, and research located no Michigan tax credit for preceptors.

Questions UCCS students ask

Can a Michigan RN enroll in UCCS's online MSN?

Only after relocating. UCCS's MSN page accepts applications solely from residents of 14 states and says those living elsewhere are ineligible for admission and for clinical placement. Physically living in a listed state is the precondition; admission itself is UCCS's call.

Is Michigan joining the Nurse Licensure Compact?

Legislation to join, HB 4246, appears as pending on the compact's map, and Michigan is not a member today. For UCCS, what counts is the license for the listed state you move to rather than Michigan's status.

Could I complete UCCS clinical hours in Michigan?

No. UCCS limits hours to the states on its website, and hours beyond your home state require the Graduate Clinical Practicum Coordinator to approve them first. Michigan appears on neither UCCS list, so a Michigan practice cannot host a UCCS rotation.

Is the RN to BSN an option if I move to Ohio?

Yes. Ohio is one of the RN to BSN's 21 states, so living there lets you apply, with NURS 4450 hours at an Ohio community site approved by course faculty. Ohio is not on the NP list, though. The Ohio guide covers that state.
