Delaware is off UCCS's admission lists, so a nurse in Wilmington or Dover cannot start a UCCS NP track or RN to BSN from home. The path runs through a move to a listed state, where you secure your own preceptor near your new address and UCCS contracts with the site.

What UCCS offers a Delaware resident today

UCCS sorts applicants by physical residence, and Delaware sits on neither its 14-state NP list nor its 21-state RN to BSN list. Clinical hours follow the same map: they belong in a listed state, so ChristianaCare or Bayhealth sites cannot count toward a UCCS course. The approved states page holds UCCS's lists.

Delaware's early vote for the APRN Compact

Delaware's nurses answer to a Board of Nursing inside the Division of Professional Regulation, and RN licensing there has followed compact rules from January 2018 onward. In August 2021 the state went further, signing the APRN Compact into law. Five states have now enacted that agreement; it needs seven before it goes live.

Three of the other enacting states, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming, sit on UCCS's NP list, which makes them natural places to compare if you are weighing a move. Until the compact operates, it grants no multistate APRN privilege. AANP rates Delaware as full practice.

The Board's filing rule for outside schools

Delaware's education standards speak of all nursing programs and draw no line between pre-licensure, RN-BSN and graduate study. An out-of-state school must alert the Board ahead of time and send in:

Evidence that its own state board approved it or that a national body accredits it
Copies of the written contract with every agency it uses
The qualifications it sets for clinical instructors and preceptors
Who is teaching or precepting, and at which site
Current Delaware or multistate license copies for each of them

The Board approves each facility before students arrive and may visit. UCCS's own list settles the matter first: with Delaware absent from it, UCCS students train elsewhere.

Wilmington, Dover and the southern counties

Northern Delaware belongs to greater Philadelphia, and roughly 588,000 of that region's residents live on the Delaware side, around Wilmington. Farther south, the Dover metro and Seaford's micropolitan area hold most other residents. The main systems are Bayhealth, Beebe Healthcare, ChristianaCare and the pediatric network Nemours Children's Health, which runs its Delaware hospital in Wilmington.

What changes after a move west

Once you live in a listed state, UCCS judges your application as that state's resident. You then find your own primary care preceptor near home, send the Clinical Site Sheet, and wait for UCCS to complete the Affiliation Agreement and preceptor letter before hours count. Your RN license must suit the state where you train, which the license guide explains, and a second move mid-program carries risk, covered in moving during the program.

Questions UCCS students ask

Can a Delaware nurse apply to UCCS's AGNP program?

Not from a Delaware address. The AGNP shares the NP tracks' 14-state rule, and Delaware is not on it. Nurses who have moved to a listed state apply as residents of that state, and UCCS makes every admission decision. Confirm the current list with UCCS before you plan a move around it.

Does Delaware's APRN Compact vote help me get into UCCS?

No. UCCS admits by where you live, not by compact membership, and the APRN Compact is not yet operating. South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming happen to be both enacting states and UCCS NP states, which may be worth knowing if you are choosing where to move.

Where is the closest state for UCCS's RN to BSN?

None of Delaware's neighbors is on the RN to BSN list. Virginia and New York are the nearest listed states, and their Virginia and New York guides explain licensing there. The program's one clinical course, NURS 4450, takes place at a community site you secure in your listed state.

Would UCCS need to file with Delaware's Board?

Delaware's filing rule covers any school placing students in Delaware facilities. It does not reach UCCS students, because UCCS keeps practicum hours in its listed states and Delaware is not one of them. A Delaware nurse who later studies from Utah, for example, trains in Utah or, with UCCS approval, another listed state.
